Amazon Jungle Trips ::: Forestours

AJT – 5 days, 4 nights Zacambu Lodge and Tupana Arü Ü Nature Reserve USD $537 per person

Day 1

We will leave Leticia on a journey of 75 km (47 miles). Heading up the Javari River, we will navigate between the Peruvian and Brazilian border to our destination: the Zacambu Rainforest Lodge. There will be time to familiarize yourself with the lodge, followed by a typical regional lunch. In the afternoon, we will head out by motorized canoe to the confluence of the rivers to watch the friendly pink and gray dolphins, together with the splendor of nightfall.

Day 2

We will depart for a morning full of activity, navigating through nearby streams and continuing on a tour into the heart of the jungle with a local guide. We will then advance to a new point on the river bank where a boat will be waiting to take us on the remainder of our outing. In the afternoon, we will go out in small boats to the bank of the Javari River. From thence, we will travel—on foot or by canoe, depending on the season—to find the exotic Victoria Regia lily pad which grows in natural gardens on Maraja Lake. In the evening, we will again head out in motorized canoes through the narrow rivers, experiencing the mysterious darkness of the jungle and spotting caimans in their habitat.

Day 3

We will depart by boat in the morning, navigating through the rainforest waterways, enjoying nature as it awakes, and the splendor of daybreak. The day’s activities will continue in a motorized canoe as we fish for diverse species, among them the most ferocious kinds, such as the red piranha. The afternoon includes an outing by canoe, paddling around Lake Joao Para, absorbing its tranquility, natural beauty, and interesting fauna. No activities are scheduled for the evening.

Day 4

Leaving Zacambu Rainforest Lodge behind, we will depart on an exciting journey, either through the waterways of the flooded jungle or up the mighty Amazon River, for a distance of approximately 130 km (81 miles). We will then arrive at the Reserva Natural Tupana Arü Ü, where the lodge installations are built in a primary rainforest high-ground ecosystem. This setting provides for impactful contact with the surrounding jungle. Our staff will be waiting for you and will give you a safety briefing on your arrival. The afternoon includes an outing to familiarize you with the region, in which you will learn about the way of life and the customs of the local indigenous inhabitants. After supper, our evening activity will begin by exploring forest trails. This unforgettable experience includes the discovery of glowing plants and listening to bird and insect sounds, all in intimate contact with the jungle.

Day 5

After breakfast, we will begin a long hike into the heart of the tropical rainforest, experiencing nature in company with a native guide. You will enjoy both the silence and the excitement as you are immersed in the absolute beauty of the surroundings and take in the secrets of the forest. We will eat lunch at the end of the activity, followed by a walk to visit the indigenous community of La Libertad, which is located on the bank of the Amazon River. It’s constituents, which are of the Yagua ethnicity, have come out over the years from the depths of the jungle to more closely integrate with the outside world, while still preserving parts of their customs and culture. We will then return to Leticia.
